The power that powered these machines was supplied by the river Derwent, and they were often constructed alongside other cotton mills. The site was eventually acquired by the city of modern Derbyshire.

These homes are divided into twenty seven single-storey workshop/business contraptions fixed around designed courtyards to make parking easier and improve circulation. They are constructed with steel portal frames and solid concrete floors, and feature manually controlled up and loading doors that are separate for staff access. They are powered by only three phases of electricity and have EPC ratings ranging from B47 up to EPC B48.
